Blogging is the Everyman’s TV syndication

March 21, 2006

I was just watching TV and realized that blogging is the Everyman’s TV. I looked at all the content and image manipulation asking myself: would you do this if you could on your blog? The answer would be: yes.

But blogs have a “dear diary” aspect to them, one that the ultahomogenized network TV doesn’t have. The naughty feeling of peering into someone else’s diary.

The playing field is becoming more and more level as a blog made in someone’s den is competing with CNN.

That technology is actually available today. For an extremely low price you can create your own online TV show (video blog) quite easily. I forget what the name of the technology is on the Mac side, but on the PC side, they have a series of products including Vlog It!

You can literally create a “green screen” behind you with a green bed sheet and easily project an image behind you to emulate just what you see on news and talk shows. You can add captions and name tags — the whole works.

So truly, TODAY you could be creating your own TV show. I’ll try to get back to you offline with the Mac version of that software… It integrates nicely with your iSight and iMovie.

Is this what retirement holds? My co-baby boomer colleagues all with their own TV, er, podcasts or whatever it will be called, doing their thing online for whomever?
