Herbie Hancock: Rockit

Just so you can appreciate how far 3D animation has come, take a look at this video by Herbie Hancock. It was very modern at the time, if not a bit retro-Da Da cum Marcel Duchamp.

You only see Herbie on the television, so be sure to watch for him. He sings and speaks through a clip-on head-microphone. You’ll hear a few vocoder sounds sneak in and out throughout the song. I wonder whether those plaster-heads are George Segal pieces. The creatures, or robots, or whatever they are, look a bit like R2D2’s classmates. The synthesizer sounds, for me, are dated, sounding very 1980s.
