Sittin’ on top of the world: Midlife image

August 7, 2006

Tresoar pag112.jpg

In that I’m 53, I guess I’m a bit to the right of the chap in the middle where the crinkly lines are. Hmm, I think I’ll keep this on my wall just so I know where I am.

If I’m not mistaken, there are two young menĀ  with their arms up symbolizing age 20, and then at age 30 and 40 he appears to have a wife. She is gone at age 50 (women had much shorter lifespans then) and after, and the man is alone for the last half of his life.
[BibliOdyssey is an endless source of visual information, culled from old books. S/he does a good job of providing two levels of quality for web browsers to view, although none are high enough quality for printing. I wonder whether s/he has a high res copy of the millions of images s/he scans. This image is from the Frisian Historical and Literary Centre in Holland which holds a large collection of old children's books. That's children's books that are old.]
