Boudleaux and Felice Bryant

bryants.jpgI just realized that part of my love for the music of Gram Parsons was actually a love for the music of a songwriting team I didn’t realize I idolized: Boudleaux and Felice Bryant. Having sold 500 million records and written some 1500 songs, they have written some of my favorite music. Besides the list below, other artists who have recorded their songs include Elvis Presley, the Beatles, Bob Dylan, the Grateful Dead, the Beach Boys, Buddy Holly, Tony Bennett, Simon & Garfunkel, Ray Charles and Roy Orbison.

Gram Parsons:

Sleepless Nights
Brand New Heartache
Love Hurts

The Everly Brothers:

Bye Bye Love
Wake Up, Little Susie
All I Have To Do Is Dream

We are overdue some enterprising producer to oversee a multi-album release of their work with the remarkable number of artists they have written for. If Johnny Depp was so hot on commissioning musicians to put out a CD of pirate songs, consider this project Johnny. This is real music with real drama and real heart.

The Bryants are musical legends who, even though they are already in the Songwriters Hall of Fame, deserve all the accolades we can give them––even if it’s post-mortem.
