I don’t think I ever heard his version of this, but I was reminded of Westland’s intoning “Bil-lee, Bil-lee”, in imitation of the opening of Copland’s ballet score
. In fact I told Adrienne Rich about it, after she told me someone had mentioned that her recent work for Pacific Serenades reminded them of Billy the Kid.
