Not that anyone is likely reading this old thread---but the Duffin book arrived today and it is seriously great stuff! I am devouring it and have to stop to get some work done.

A review of two books in the 3 August 2007 Times Literary Supplement might be of interest. John Butt discusses Henry Kamen's The Disinherited and John Hooper's The New Spaniards.

On the follwing pages Michael Downes reviews three books on music, including an intriguing one by Ross W. Duffin, How Equal Temperament Ruined Harmony.

I may actually have to get a few of these books, rather than forget, as often happens, that all I know of them is from reading their reviews.
