Statistics for Grammy winners

February 12, 2011

An interesting report on Grammy winners since 1959 in today’s LA Times.

“A study of Grammy data for the top three performance categories over more than 50 years shows that white men have dominated over the years, as have natives of California and New York. And rock and pop were the dominant genre winners.”

I looked at the impressive graph provided (see above) and couldn’t find Classical music. Aha! There it is in fine print at the bottom: “Blues, Christian and Classical music have had nominations but no wins.” What a strange statistic. I’ll try to not draw any radical conclusions about the state of music in the early 21st century.
