This year (2005-6) I received a UCLA Distinguished Teaching Award. This is a video of the ceremonies that were held last fall.

My partner, Daniel Shiplacoff, insisted that I post this video for the benefit of my family who couldn’t be there. And my Rufus pals can see old Berlioz in action, or kind of… I squirm watching myself here; I’m so, so, GAY!

here’s hoping you view this one day without squirming since there is no reason to, you had me leaning into the monitor to hear you talk about your father, I can only imagine being in a lecture hall, I am sure the students are rapt. Congrats and I hope your arm isn’t too sore from the twisting that Daniel gave it!

Roger, that was great! And you SO deserve it.
When I read your prose both on the RW site and here, you come over as a warm, intelligent, funny and passionate man, and now I know it’s true - walking talking Berlioz! Congratulations on the award. I am both a teacher (though of much younger students) and the (ex) wife of a Methodist minister, so you gave me a lot to think about. love and hugs, Cath xx p.s.No need to cringe!

You know who it is when you hear your voice on a recording: “I don’t sound like thaaat do I?” Or you see yourself on video: “Oh my god why didn’t you tell me I do that?” forgetting that the world actually SEES you like “that” every day.

Congratulations on the award, and not particularly gay… except for the mention of your domestic partner.

You forgot to mention Rufus, but probably just as well.

A “friend” just told me “omigod, you sound just like Tim” (on Project Runway) — now THAT’S faggy. I’ll try to start butching up my act. [lol]
