It seemed so cool sitting up there in that balcony. And what we saw WAS pretty amazing, but gee, now I wish I could have see what was around the corner! Ah well, I did love the royalty feel of the box...

Daniel Shiplacoff and I went last night, and I am so glad I saw it a second time and this time from the center of the house. I am so glad for two reasons: I just loved it again and think the choreography and the dancing are beautiful; and I couldn't believe how much stuff Roger and I did not see from our box seats on the side last week. For example, in the last moment of the ballet, we could see the queen holding her dead son, but we couldn't see that up above the bed, the swan king was also holding the dead prince; it was quite striking, and was one of many such things. Anyway, it was great.

Wow! That synopsis that Roger linked to is quite different from what was printed in the program at the Ahmanson! I wonder why...

Anyway, it was a wonderful experience, and I wish I had the opportunity to see it a second time on the stage (and this time see the whole stage, instead of 60% of it!). I loved the choreography, the dancing, the story, and I loved that a fair amount of it was laugh-out-loud funny, until the tragic events begin to take over. Somehow, Bourne managed to create a work that was clearly in the tradition of grand ballet and yet which also lovingly poked fun at some of its traditions.

And, to quote Roger, who numerous times leaned over and whispered to me: "Hot!"
