The idea that 'hysterical energy' could block the female body and needed to be 'safely' ie medically, released was a direct continuation of mesmer's ideas -- and led to doctors with rsi. One doctor with an aching digit did what men do -- thought of a mechanical solution...(warning; i could be conflating info chunks...) from what i remember tho’, mesmer’s ideas did lead to one other technology — the vibrator!
