Donovan: Yellow is the color of my true love’s hair

Here is a young Donovan singing one of his early folk hits, “Yellow is the Color of my True Love’s Hair.” He is nervous, I can tell because he comes in a 3rd low, but then corrects the tune by the next phrase. I mean, I can imagine, standing there, looking cute but trying to look cool, and then all these girls start screaming at you cuz they think you’re so hot: I might lose my place too.

[If this post is too vanilla for you, for the record, I was going to post 50 Cent's "Thomas in da Club" but it has been "taken down." Hmmm. Then I tried Nat and Ella singing "You're the Top." Also taken down. I guess the copyright cops are at work at YouTube. Rats.]

Forget 50 cents, this is what I grew up on. I know that’s incredibly reactionary, which is so out of character, but I just love this stuff.

Thanks Mom!

PS. I think it’s simply called “Colours”.

Funny how we round off titles to hooks in the chorus. Like at Roy Orbison song “In a Dream” really shoulda been called “Crying.” You know it’s true.
