I had a hell of a good time, and this in the context of being under deadline pressure like you wouldn't believe. Both Bourlands were wonderful, and I continue to marvel at the revolution in performance quality at UCLA.

The Chihara was great fun as well, and I'm coming to appreciate his music more by the minute.

It was also touching to see Jennifer Leitham kick up her heels, literally and figuratively, and have her allude to her operation in such a vulnerable way. This is clearly someone who made the right decision, and a case illustrating the fallacy of thinking that gay males are always men with women inside---one that my late father used to float, in terms that demonstrated in addition his appalling misogyny, to my extreme dismay.

It's nice to see that, if anything, Leitham gets more work in town now than before the change. Brava Jennifer!

But back to the concert---it was also pleasant to not even have one token atonal work or shimmering sound-effect non-piece, even if Alan Rich (had he been there) would protest.
