Thank you for reminding me of this man’s great service to our nation. I remember, about this time (64), he played a concert in the auditoriumn of my high school. I went kind of reluctently, as he was a bit too much of a favorite of my parents. In the following hour I had so much of our heritage lovingly passed on to me as I was entertained completely. And he has almost never stopped. No, I do not think there is a national honor that is undeserved by this man. A true 4th of July gift.

And a real gentleman. I did a residency at UCLA some years back. One day, he sat down in a room that was our staff’s lunch room, and just started playing. In the hallowed halls of faculty offices, Pete just played and played.
