Roger Bourland: American Baroque (1993)
Here is a fun piece for piano trio (violin, cello, piano) commissioned by Mark Carlson’s Pacific Serenades. I gravitate toward the sewing machine momentum of Baroque music, but I can’t embrace it’s harmony. So instead, I infuse my own sense of Stravinsky-an Americana into the mix and here’s what I came up with.

That is lovely, has kind of a “West Side Story”. Bernstein lyricism to the first half. After that chocolate molé, slower/darker at around 06:00 my meandering mind took off a bit. But I enjoyed it. I was thinking of a skateboard (from your mention of sewing machine, which to me has a few more small gears and whirlies) and kinesis. Once you have forward momentum, how often and with what technique does one need to re-inject a swift kick?
