I have started a new blog called music @ UCLA. Some years back, just like the Dark Crystal, the music department broke up and formed three separate departments: The Department of Music (which includes composition, performance, music education, and performance practice), the Department of Musicology, and the Department of Ethnomusicology and Systematic Musicology. Got that?

When I was first hired at UCLA, those three areas were warring but still one department. I started a new music series called MUSIC ON FIRE that featured performers from all three areas. That worked fairly well, but eventually the three divisions turned into three departments. And Musicology went to Letters and Science.

Fast forward to the present, in the spirit of “getting back together” whatever that means, this blog aims to feature faculty, staff, and students from the three areas. Alums are welcome as well. It seems a perfect tool to give interested students a glimpse inside what happens in music at UCLA.
