		<description>Mike Davis's _Ecology of Fear_ was widely criticized when it came out for overstating its case, but everything I hear from friends in Southern California sounds like your post.  Just a few weeks ago a spoke to a grade school friend who still lives in Baldy Village -- she said everything was fine except for the bears, and I just about lost it, as when I was a kid, bears hadn't been sighted up there for generations!</description>

		<description>One humble suggestion. Get those Grays out of the back yard. Hawks might not succeed (though they could do psychological damage) but Coyotes, Bears, Raccoons, could make hash of your cages - and the birds.) The current record drought has brought much unexpected wildlife into city backyards. More will come. I promise.</description>
