I was introduced to the poetry of Francisco X. Alarcón by Adrienne Rich. He was born in LA and of Mexican heritage. He looks like a Mexican Buddha with round wire rimmed glasses and a long black ponytail. I have set his poetry in two pieces for unaccompanined women’s chorus: Alarcón Madrigals, Books One and Two. The great women’s chorus, Vox Femimina/LA, commissioned book 2 and is now commissioning book 3. My hope is to finish this set while I’m here in Hawaii, as the women will be anxiously awaiting them in September. I will be posting the poems here for me to chew on and for you to read if you are so inclined.
