December 30, 2006

If wading through the Rufus Wainwright bulletin board is not on your list of websites to read, allow me to bring you up to date about some new projects on the 2007 horizon.smolewski.jpg

Rufus Wainwright’s next studio album will be titled “Release the Stars” and will be produced solely by Rufus. Release estimated in early May 2007.

After finishing his new album, Rufus will escape to Switzerland to continue working on his new opera

commissioned by the Metropolitan Opera (Rev. Gelb) which is entitled “Prima Donna.” Wainwright elucidates: “…it’s about a day in the life of an opera singer. I’m influenced by Callas, of course, but also by other singers: Régine Crespin, Beverly Sills. I feel opera is one of the few remaining subjects that it’s relevant to write an opera about. If you missed his Judy Garland concert in Carnegie Hall, you might be able to get tickets to his February performances in Paris and London.
