Soprano, Juliana Gondek and pianist Judith Hansen, will premiere my new FOUR MARIAN SONGS, with lyrics by William MacDuff, culled from ROSARIUM on Thursday, Feb.22, 2007 at 8 pm in Schoenberg Auditorium, on the UCLA campus.
On the same concert will be the premiere of FLIGHT INTO EGYPT a 15 minute chamber opera based upon Thornton Wilder’s playlet. Juliana Gondek, Michael Dean, and Angel Blue are (respectively) the donkey, Joseph, and Mary in the work. The work is one of three that was commissioned by Wilder’s estate. This version is unstaged and in this sense it is a workshop stand-and-sing performance where I hope to get any bugs out before the official premiere in New York at Riverside Church, sponsored by the Union Theological Seminary. My second chamber opera, MOZART AND THE GREY STEWARD will be premiered next season (2008), and the third, THE PENNY THAT BEAUTY SPENT will be premiered in 2009.

On Saturday, March 24, 2007 at 8pm, the terrific women’s chorus VOX FEMINA, conducted by Iris Levine, will premiere ALARCON MADRIGALS, BOOK 3 at the Wilshire United Methodist Church, 4350 Wilshire Blvd., a work they commissioned. The piece will share a program with CARMINA BURANA, so don’t miss it! (But sheesh, talk about a hard act to follow!)
